Default LF WoW players who know play GW help..

I have just recently switched from WoW to Guild Wars and am enjoying it despite a few control quarks that are really getting to me. This may just be because playing WoW for years has burned it into me but I could REALLY use your help to figure out if I it even possible in GW.

In WoW you can look around while your running without changing your chars directions by click and holding the left mouse button. Is there any possible control config in GW to get this same function? I can't stand that my char in GW has to change his moving direction if I choose to right click and drag to look around. It's very useful to to see who/what is behind you etc etc I can't imagine this wouldn't be an option at all but I can't figure it out.

Also, in WoW you can mouse wheel to zoom in and out ALL of the time including while your moving. In GW I have to stop my guy zoom in or out then start running again, is there anyway to change this!?

Also, it is very disturbing not being able to walk/run off anything that is even a foot drop, is this forced behavior in all of GW or is there a setting to change it so I can actually walk off a 1 foot drop cleft instead of running a mile down the road and coming back on the other side to get there? VERY un-natural like.

Thanks for the help!!!

If you left click on the ground somewhere you can then hold down the rightmouse button and look around. You can also press the Look Behind button which should be Z default.

press R to auto run, then you can do w/e you want.

No you can't jump / walk of ledges. Just spend 2 more seconds and walk around it.

Instead of using the keys to move all ya have to do is just left click on the map where ya want to run to and just hold the right mouse button down while ya look around easy! WOW has burned into you hasnt it!

Click to destination where you want to run to. Then you can look around.

Alternatively, you can press Z to look behind you.

Same thing in GW. How do you move btw, using WASD?

There's also auto-run button. I don't remember what default binding is, I have it set to R.

In GW, collision detection is a very big deal. You cannot turn it off, and server constantly checks your position and will rubberband you back if you get out of sync.

I'm not too sure why you cannot zoom in and out while moving, it seems to be working fine for me.

Usually i move around using WASD so if i want to look around I use WASD in conjunction with holding the right-mouse button and strafe/backpeddal if i want to look a direction while moving. Unless you only need to look behind you, in which case there is a button for it.

The physics are just something you will have to get used to, sometimes it can be annoying, but it has its own dynamics...especially for PvP.

Just wait 'till we can jump in Guild Wars 2! I can't wait. But don't try to get too used to the controls as they will be COMPLETELY different in GW2.

Thanks for the responses, has been very helpful.

What I'm used to in WoW:
WoW controls:
W Forward
A Strafe Left
S Backward
D Strafe Right

E Target Nearest Enemy
Q - Was mapped to my most commonly used pvp spell/ability
Tab - Same as Q but second most commonly used/needed
1,2,3,etc were equal to their associated skills spells on same # hotbar locs.
Num Lock Auto Run
Space Jump

For all of the other major movement/combat commands the mouse was all I needed and so far in GW I've got it configured close to the same with the exception of what I posted about.

I presonally don't like to use click-to-move for various reasons and I disabled it. WoW also has click to move it works the same but it is rarely used, and not by any advanced player I know of. Especially for PvP reasons where your want to be able to directly command your POV on instant demand while changing movement in realtime. Thanks for the tip though, I guess if I used it then I wouldn't have the problem of looking around while moving but for your own warning according to what I've read now in GW2 they will be removing the click to move from the game entirely.

It's great to hear the mouse wheel will allow you to zoom and out while moving! I guess mine is just funkified and I'll have to figure it out.

I'm utterly amazed that you can't jump and swim and all that lol, just never thought that'd be an issue with as much WoW vs GW hype is around out there and I didn't even know there was a GW2 in the works until now.

I have to admit though, the game is very unique and nice in a different way than WoW and I'm hoping I'll just get used to it and the other differences.

WoW has done an amazing job at giving players a non limiting fully changeable and yet to the point UI and GWs seems very limiting to me at this point and will definitely take some getting used to. I really hope that is what they are going to be changing with some much needed focus in GW2.

This forum is fantastic, you people are great, thanks for helping.

I was a WoW player, it's hard to compare them both as their both different.
This has been hashed many times.

The controls grew on me however and got used to them almost 2-3 days after of playing.

In terms of PvP GW is nice because you have to think on your skills bar. That's what makes this a good game, being able to come up with a build that'll work for you.

Their are alot of friendly people on these forums, and I have had alot of help from here.

If you want to get in touch with me I can take you around show you the ropes as well as others here just send me a pm, and i'll give you the details.

I hope you have a pleasent time with GW.

that is a known fact for GW2. ANet has said they will be using the Z-Axis (i.e jumping, swiming, possibly falling off things.

Its hard for me to explain but once you are used to the controls you can move with WASDQE and look around while dynamically changing your movement direction to stay the same. Its not really that hard but I don't know how to explain it any easier. Also, I would suggest against moving using left clicks most of the time.
